Department Seminar: The politics of regulating low wages by Professor Georg Picot
Title:
The politics of regulating low wages
Abstract:
In this talk, Georg Picot will present the findings from a five-year research project about what states do to tackle low-wage employment and what explains the differences in their approaches. The project centred on the politics of statutory minimum wages, but accounted also for closely related policies, in particular regulation of collective bargaining and in-work benefits. Picot will summarize how low-wage policies vary across advanced capitalist democracies, and address the politics and reasons behind that variation.
