Book Review: Love and Society: Special Social Forms and The Master Emotion
Associate Professor Poul Poder has written a book review published in the journal Acta Sociologica. The review examines Swen Seebach’s book Love and Society: Special Social Forms and the Master Emotion from 2017.
Love and Society: Special Social Forms and the Master Emotion addresses three main questions. In the first part, how and why love should be defined as a second-order form. In the second part of the book, Seebach explains how and why love has not only moved into the center of personal life but also turned into a general purpose in modern society. Finally, the third part addresses the question of, what is the meaning and ways of experiencing love in the current modern society. Given the comprehensiveness and richness of the book, Poul Poder’s review concentrates on the specific parts that he finds particularly important with respect to a diagnosis of contemporary love lives.
